How to Verify Your Google Business Profile Through Video
by Brian Lawrence and Katherine Meikle
Whether you’ve just created your Google Business Profile or you’ve received a notification that your GBP requires re-verification, it’s important to act quickly to avoid disruptions to your online presence.
Google often now requires the verification process to be completed by video – but what does this actually entail? And why might you not be given the option to verify another way?
Google Business Profile Verification: Why Video is Now the Norm
If it’s been a while since you last verified your Google Business Profile, you may recall simpler methods like postcards, texts, or phone calls. Unfortunately, those options are now largely a thing of the past. Video verification has become the go-to method for most businesses, while email, text, and phone verification are relatively rare, and postcards have been almost entirely phased out for years.
This more intense process may offer better protection to ensure legitimate businesses are the only ones to appear on Google Maps. Additionally its functionality prevents problems like postal delays or losses from interfering with the verification steps.
What If You See “More Options”?
You might notice a message offering “more options” for verification. However, clicking this often leads to a dead end, showing only a “having problems?” message and the option to postpone your verification. If this is what you’re seeing, rest assured, it’s not a unique problem.

Frustratingly, Google doesn’t allow you to choose a different method if one isn’t immediately offered, but they still frequently give the “more options” prompt.
If another verification method is actually offered, and it is more accessible to work with than a verification video, you can select it and go ahead as instructed.
Can Google Support Help You Get a Different Verification Option?
Reaching out to Google Support won’t change the available verification methods. Support teams are limited to assisting with live video chat verification when issues arise – they cannot override the system to get a method you prefer.
Why Video Verification is Your Best Bet Over a Live Video Call
While the process may feel unfamiliar, video verification is simpler than going straight to trying to schedule a live video chat with Google. The standard video verification lets you record on your own time and submit directly through the Google platform, without needing to provide the additional documentation required for live video calls.
If video verification is offered to you, we strongly recommend using it. It’s the most straightforward way to regain full control of your profile and keep your business information accurate for potential customers.
Here’s What You Need to Know About the Process:
Recording Through the Google Platform
One of the most important things to know is that you cannot pre-record a GBP verification video attempt. It must be done directly within the Google Business Profile platform. It also must be performed at your place of business, even if you work from home and don’t publicly display your address.
Together, these facts mean that if you utilize an SEO agency like ours, we can assist you with the verification steps, but we cannot create a video for you, or watch it to check it has been done correctly.
Starting the Process
Before you begin, log in to your Google Business Profile account. Follow the on-screen instructions to navigate through the verification tabs. Once you reach the recording step, you’ll use your phone to capture the video directly through the app.
Understanding the Process
Google has specific guidelines for what must be included in the video. In the initial message about verifying by video, it says “Show your location, equipment and proof of management.”

To follow these directives and have a higher chance of video acceptance the first time:
- Show your business location and ensure it matches the address on your profile.
- Highlight clear signage that displays your business name.
- Include interior shots of your business and provide a quick walkthrough to demonstrate your operations.
- Maintain a pace to keep your recording under five minutes.

During the Verification Period
While you’re waiting for Google to approve your video submission, your existing profile information will remain visible, with the possible exception of photos. However, you won’t be able to post updates or make edits to your listing until the verification is completed.
After Completion
Double check to make certain that your video verification attempt has been approved. If you are working with a dedicated SEO team such as ours, be sure to notify them when the verification has successfully been completed.
What if Video Verification Fails?
Sometimes, the video verification process for your Google Business Profile doesn’t go as smoothly as planned. Previously, attempts would be denied without any explanation or suggestion for improvement. In early 2025, Google began sharing basic reasoning behind denials, denoting which of the three core elements you were missing proof of.
Read through the explanation you are given and do what is necessary to ensure you are more able to meet the missing needs outlined in your denial email.
What if you Run Out of Options?
If you’ve submitted multiple video verification attempts without approval or encountered technical issues on your profile, don’t worry – there’s still a solution.
If your attempts to verify through the standard video process are unsuccessful, you’ll need to contact Google Support. In these cases, they can arrange for you to verify your profile through a live video call. This method allows you to speak directly with a Google representative to resolve verification issues.
What to Expect if You Need a Live Video Call
Live video verification requires a bit more preparation than the standard process. You’ll need:
- Proof of business authenticity, such as licenses, utility bills, or other documents.
- A clear plan to demonstrate your business location, signage, and operations during the call.
Navigating a Live Video Call
Scheduling and completing a live video call can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the process. That’s why we’ve created a step-by-step guide to handling live verification calls with Google Support.
